and Gary Lynch
combined their practices in June of 2004 to launch Carlson Lynch Ltd. The two founding partners – who had been friends since their law school orientation – had a clear vision for their new firm. It was a vision which married their original professional experience in “big law” to the ethos of their working-class forbearers in Western Pennsylvania. That is, they envisioned a small firm with a big purpose – to employ the same level of sophistication that the country’s largest law firms mustered on behalf of their institutional clients on behalf of individual consumers and employees who might otherwise lack the means to purchase that level of sophistication in the legal marketplace. They saw reflected in the history of Western Pennsylvania a virtual case study of the tension between the unparalleled promise of capitalism and the collateral damage that is wrought when the titans of industry and finance fail to follow the rules of the market. Carlson Lynch was conceived as a law firm to provide a voice for those individuals who are harmed when capitalism shrugs.
In the summer of 2014, seasoned class action/complex litigation lawyers Ben Sweet and Ed Kilpela joined the firm as name partners and the firm outgrew its former office space at PNC Park in Pittsburgh. Effective June 30, 2015, the firm relocated to spacious state of the art offices at 1133 Penn Avenue, on the edge of Pittsburgh’s Strip District. The firm continues to hold leadership positions in major national litigation. The firm also continues to grow and will soon announce the hiring of three new attorneys.
