In 2008, Illinois passed the Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA).
This act protects any Illinois resident from having their biometric data collected without their consent. BIPA also states that companies in Illinois must provide their data policies on why they are obtaining such information from employees or consumers.

Biometric data is your Fingerprints, Retina Scans, Voice Recognition and Facial Imaging of any kind.

If you are an Illinois resident and an employer, business or retailer has collected any of your biometric data without receiving your written consent or explaining its use you may be entitled to monetary compensation.
